Fiber reinforced phenolic resin -- product molding and application

there are many kinds of materials and processes for manufacturing fiber reinforced phenolic resin products, such as prepreg, winding molding, pultrusion molding, honeycomb core, molding and hand paste molding


the reinforcing fibers used in prepreg include E glass fiber, R glass fiber, s glass fiber, carbon fiber, basalt fiber and aramid fiber. These fibers can be used in woven, nonwoven or unidirectional forms. Phenolic resin is mainly solvent based resin (> 95%). According to the type of impregnation equipment, the resin content in the prepreg is different: generally, the resin content of vertical impregnation can reach 55 ~ 70%, and the resin content of horizontal impregnation is lower. With the increasing demand for phenolic resin high-performance synthetic fiber materials, solvents are the carrier of lipids, which is convenient to use some additives to modify the resin, such as toughening agents, softeners, surfactants, release agents, coupling agents, flow reducing agents and fillers (such as alumina, pigments and recent nanoparticles)

the prepreg can be molded by molding method (high pressure, single-layer or multi-layer press) and vacuum bag method (curing furnace or hot pressing tank). Recently, a low-pressure vacuum bag forming method without autoclave uses newly modified prepreg. Due to the cancellation of autoclave, it can reduce the investment of equipment experiment fracture point

as the application of composites in new aircraft increases (~ 50%), the demand for phenolic composites in the aircraft industry increases. Phenolic prepreg, together with honeycomb core, is used to manufacture aircraft interior panels. Although the cost is high, some reports show that the aircraft interior panel made of cyanate ester or benzoxazine prepreg has better surface quality, lighter color, less voids, less volatile matter and little formaldehyde emission

phenolic prepreg for bulletproof products is made of fibers such as Kevlar aramid and s glass and soluble phenolic resin. In addition to the need for a large number of bulletproof products in armed conflicts, some vehicles and buildings also need bulletproof and explosion-proof materials

winding molding

phenolic composite winding molding has provided the semiconductor industry with fireproof and anti-corrosion air ducts for clean rooms. The wound products can also be used as wire tubes for hydropower industry and underground transportation industry

pultrusion molding

as more crude oil is found in the sea, pultrusion phenolic composites for offshore oil production platforms continue to receive strong demand. The preferred phenolic resin for pultrusion process is soluble phenolic resin

it is reported that Zhongge composite materials (Nantong) Co., Ltd. used alkali free glass fiber yarn, soluble phenolic resin and aluminum hydroxide filler to extrude a kind of FRP grille. The pultrusion die temperature was set at 220 ~ 250 ℃, and the weight ratio of aluminum hydroxide to phenolic resin was 0.05 ~ 0.31. The product can withstand 927 ℃ high temperature ablation, reaching the U.S. Coast Guard level II standard (USCG, then the wire and cable sample is a qualified product with high transmission efficiency level 2)
