The bottleneck and development prospect of honeycomb paperboard in China
honeycomb paperboard is a new paper material that has developed rapidly in recent years. This development process is in a state of ups and downs. It will be very useful to make an in-depth analysis of it
1. Overview of honeycomb paperboard
1. Origin and classification of honeycomb paperboard
scientists have found that the hexagonal hexagonal nest made by bees is a masterpiece. It uses the least material consumption to build a very strong honeycomb, and its structure is stronger than that of any other shape. Because the arrangement of multiple walls and a series of continuous honeycomb like structures can disperse the external forces from all sides, the resistance of the honeycomb structure to the extrusion force is much higher than that of any circle or square. The Enlightenment of scientists' research on honeycomb structure is that even very thin materials can withstand great pressure as long as they are made into honeycomb shape
honeycomb panels are generally divided into two categories: metal and non-metal. Metal honeycomb panels are mainly applicable to aircraft manufacturing, steam turbine manufacturing, shipbuilding, transportation, etc. Non metallic honeycomb board is divided into fiber and paper. Fiber honeycomb panels are mainly used in transportation industry, interior decoration industry and furniture industry; Paper honeycomb panels are mainly used in the packaging industry, building materials industry, furniture industry, etc. The paper honeycomb board used in the packaging industry, namely honeycomb paperboard, is mainly used for making packaging boxes and transportation packaging
2. The structure and characteristics of honeycomb paperboard
the structure of honeycomb paperboard is two layers of face paper (or paperboard), and the middle is the core paper in the natural honeycomb state. The core paper is bonded between the two layers of face paper with a certain adhesive to form a three-layer structure, which is similar to the structure of single corrugated paperboard. The thickness change of honeycomb paperboard is mainly realized by increasing or decreasing the thickness of honeycomb core paper. The structure always maintains three layers, and its thickness can vary between mm, unlike corrugated cardboard, which depends on increasing the number of corrugated layers to increase its thickness. The size of honeycomb paperboard sandwich column hole can be changed, and its change can also change the strength of honeycomb paperboard, which is also different from corrugated paperboard
the structure of honeycomb paperboard determines its characteristics, namely, light weight, uniform compression, high compression, bending and shear strength, good cushioning and vibration isolation performance, low cost, easy recycling, renewable, is a green, energy-saving, environmental protection, high-tech new packaging material
3. The production and process of honeycomb paperboard
the production process of honeycomb paperboard (refers to the bonding and molding process) has three forms: 1) single machine operation; 2) Unit operation type; 3) Production linkage line, i.e. production line
The honeycomb paperboard production line consists of two parts. The first part is the unit for manufacturing honeycomb hexagonal structure paper core, which belongs to the previous process. The quality, specification and shape of paper are the basis of honeycomb products. The second part is the unit for laminating the upper and lower layers of the paper core, which is a subsequent process. The quality and level of post-processing is an important link to ensure the quality of honeycomb productsthe whole production process of honeycomb paperboard is: 1) core making; There are winding type, stacking type, paper butt joint type and continuous paper strip type; 2) Gluing: there are glue spraying method, gluing method and full width gluing method; 3) Stretching: finite width stretching, differential stretching, differential and width limiting phase in recent years, there has been a combination of performance and price, transverse stretching; 4) Compounding: investors doubt that the accounts receivable of Yicheng Xinneng are actually higher than the operating income, with gluing compounding on the surface and gluing compounding on the ridge; 5) Compaction: press compaction, extrusion compaction and roller compaction; 6) Slitting: there are paper cutter slitting, circular knife slitting and single punching knife slitting; 7) Splicing: there are manual splicing, semi-automatic splicing, automatic splicing (core strip docking, paper strip splicing); 8) Heating and drying: electric heating, steam heating and heat transfer oil heating; 9) Vertical and horizontal cutting: computer control and working program control; 10) Special treatment: there are roughening treatment, exhaust treatment and increased contact treatment
II. History and current situation of honeycomb paperboard
1. History of honeycomb paperboard
honeycomb paperboard has a history of nearly 60 years and was first used in military. In the Second World War, it was used as a parachute landing tool to cushion the landing of air cargo and minimize damage when landing. In the 1950s and 1960s, honeycomb paperboard has been used in building materials, packaging and other fields in developed countries
China's honeycomb technology was first introduced by the aerospace industry, and aluminum was used to manufacture aerospace materials. In the late 1980s, honeycomb paperboard was first used in military products. In 1988, the General Logistics Department of the Chinese people's Liberation Army set up a project and issued a research assignment; In 1999, we completed the testing of products, and made packaging products such as packaging boxes and paper pallets, which were tested in military warehouses and military aid military trade materials, and achieved obvious results. In 1992, the honeycomb paper core production equipment and honeycomb paperboard bonding equipment developed by the health medicine warehouse of the general logistics department were successfully trial produced. Although there are many design defects in this production line, it has ended the history of hand-made honeycomb paperboard, causing many domestic manufacturers to start the research and development of honeycomb paperboard production equipment. By the end of 1997, in addition to some enterprises that introduced equipment from Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea and other countries, there were 27 domestic enterprises that developed and produced honeycomb paperboard. Machinery, electronics, foreign trade and other systems have also carried out a large number of promotion and application tests, and organized forces to develop electromechanical products turnover boxes, electronic products buffer packaging boxes, flat glass packaging boxes, foreign trade export paper pallets, etc., which have been tried or used in relevant industries, and achieved good results in protecting contents and reducing packaging costs
in view of the above, in order to regulate the development of honeycomb paperboard technology, the Academy of Mechanical Sciences, the China Export Commodity Packaging Research Institute, the military packaging office and other units jointly drafted the machinery industry standard "honeycomb paperboard production line", the packaging standard "packaging material honeycomb paperboard" and the national military standard "honeycomb paperboard specification". The formulation of these three standards marks that honeycomb paperboard has become an important packaging substrate used in China's packaging industry, and its promotion and application has entered a new stage of development
2. Honeycomb paperboard boom
honeycomb paperboard began to heat up in October 1998. The reason was that the United States found pests such as Anoplophora glabripennis in the wood packaging of China's export goods in 1998. On September 17, it announced that China would prohibit the entry of solid wood packaging materials without strict high temperature, fumigation or preservative treatment. Canada and the United Kingdom followed suit, successively issuing similar bans on China's solid wood packaging materials. In June, 1999, 15 countries in the European Union implemented emergency measures to prevent the spread of pests carried in Chinese wooden containers in the European Union
since October, 1998, China's foreign trade exports have declined, and it is urgent to solve the problem of wood packaging. National leaders are very concerned about this, and have issued emergency notices for many times, asking relevant departments to study countermeasures and put forward measures to solve the problems. About half of China's exports to the United States are packed in wood. If fumigation is adopted, the fumigation cost is very high. Therefore, we have to consider developing new packaging materials suitable for China's national conditions and export needs as soon as possible and accelerating the introduction of wood substitute packaging materials. Honeycomb paperboard is an ideal material and has become a hot spot for promotion and application, which is the direct reason for the rapid rise of honeycomb paperboard
3. Application of honeycomb paperboard
first, it is used as a cushion. The honeycomb sandwich structure of honeycomb paperboard makes its cushioning performance better than that of corrugated paperboard. The form of overall cushioning or local cushioning can be used to protect the contents
second, it is used as a tray. Compared with wooden pallets, honeycomb paperboard pallets have light weight and high strength. They can be used as ordinary flat pallets and single-sided pallets, and can also be made into column pallet structures
third, it is used as a packing box. Like corrugated boxes, honeycomb paperboard can be processed into cartons, but generally only thinner honeycomb paperboard can be used to make cartons
fourth, it is used as corner brace, rib protector and other accessories. Similar to the cushion liner, honeycomb paperboard can be used as the corner brace and rib protector of transportation packages, which is especially suitable for collective packaging, playing a protective role, reducing collision and friction, and reducing damage
at present, honeycomb paperboard is also used to make "sanitary coffins", which are cremated after packaging the remains, and are mainly supplied to the markets of Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Now Dalian and other cities have also begun to use "sanitary coffins"
III. Development Trend of honeycomb paperboard
1. Correct evaluation of honeycomb paperboard
it is absolutely certain that honeycomb paperboard is a packaging material that is deeply valued and worthy of promotion. First of all, it is suitable for most manufacturers and conforms to the national industrial policy. Packaging is a big consumer of wood, and representing packaging is the national industrial policy. Especially in the summer of 1998, China experienced the worst catastrophic flood disaster in a century. The severity of the disaster and the size of the disaster area are unprecedented. Therefore, the state restricts the cutting of forests and the use of wood for packaging. In the guide catalogue of substitute wood packaging for export goods, honeycomb paperboard has become the preferred material for substitute wood. It can not only save wood, but also break the barriers set by the United States, Canada, the European Union and other countries to China's trade
secondly, it conforms to the law of price. The general trend of timber prices will not change. In recent years, Southeast Asian countries have also been controlling forest harvesting, and the reduction of exports has led to the continuous rise in the price of imported timber. The consumption demand has not decreased but increased, and the price rise is the main means to adjust supply and demand. Wood packaging is no longer low-cost, and it is inevitable to use other more economical materials. Honeycomb paperboard has scientific and reasonable structure, low cost and conforms to the law of price
again, it is in line with the policy of environmental protection and sustainable development. The elimination of white pollution has become an important topic of environmental protection at present, and the EPS buffer liner, which is widely used in transportation and packaging, has become an increasingly serious white pollution. The Montreal Protocol and the Vienna Declaration (both of which are signatories) stipulate that the goal of eliminating EPS pollution will be achieved in 2005. Honeycomb paperboard has excellent cushioning performance and is an ideal material to replace EPS. At the same time, it follows the overall policy of environmental protection and sustainable development
2. The upsurge of honeycomb paperboard
honeycomb paperboard began to heat up in October 1998.
The relevant state departments are very concerned about this, and have issued emergency notices for many times, asking the relevant departments to study countermeasures and put forward measures to solve the problems. About half of China's exports to the United States are packed in wood. If fumigation is used, the fumigation cost is expensive. Therefore, we have to consider developing new packaging materials suitable for China's national conditions and export needs as soon as possible, and accelerating the introduction of substitute wood packaging
